GEFA Holding Breast Cancer Awareness Week: 5 Games On Tap Saturday

April 5, 2024 Billy Splain

It's Breast Cancer Awareness Week for the Great Eastern Football Conference. There are five games on tap and each game will raise monies for charities to support the cause. So when you're finished with your rods on the first day of trout, head out and check out some great football action and support a great cause!

A quick review of last week:

Williamsport topped the Miners 62-14. The Miners team owner Jace Updyke The Wildcats were the best team Saturday. We have a young team. We took a lot of positives from the game as much as were we need to improve.

"We are coming together as a full unit and it's clicking and that's a positive thing to see." - Head Coach Aaron Stoner. "We executed for four quarters and that’s what it takes to win." - Quarterback Brandon Ellis. "We got after it all game and it was a fun clean game of football." - DL Marques Holton.

The Vikings topped the WB Warriors 38-12. Thor Marlow, the owner and head coach for the Mo-Valley Vikings, said "We felt decent about our performance week 1. We have some new pieces that joined the team and like any solid program we will improve each week. We had more turnovers than expected but we were fortunately able to dominate the Warriors on the ground and come out with the win!"

Elsewhere Bedford dominated the Mustangs 53-38 and Coal County took down Monroeville 19-6 in a battle of new teams.

League President James Simerson likes what he sees so far this season. "I think the season is going better than expected. We cracked down on some stuff we saw last season to try and make the environment at our games more fan friendly. A couple hiccups regarding the weather at the Rob Marrero Memorial Kickoff Classic but we have been full steam since."
