Warriors Remarkable Comeback Stuns Wildcats

April 3, 2023 Brian Ptashinski

MINERS MILLS - The Wilkes-Barre Warriors trailing much of Saturday's Great Eastern Football Association 8v8 semi-pro game at The Bog against the Wildcats of Williamsport put together a 24 point fourth quarter for a come-from-behind win 30-26 in front of about 200 fans on a glorious spring day.

Hassan Bookman threw two touchdown passes in the first half, first to Harry Cole for 30 yards and a nine yard slant to Elliot Walker as the Wildcats took a 26-6 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was basically a defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless, but the Warriors had two promising drives but both times the Wildcats ended the threat with interceptions.

The Warriors began the rally to start the final quarter on the second play with the ball on the Wildcats four yard line QB Trevon Perez-Nevins scooted in for a touchdown to trim the score to 26-12.

A 15-yard TD pass from Gary Kroll to Malachi Williams got the Warriors to within 26-18 after the Wildcats were stopped on four downs.

On the Warriors third drive Kroll found Diron Simmons on a crossing pattern that made the score 26-24 late.

Nursing a two point lead, The Wildcats tried to milk the clock, but with three minutes left a fumble was recovered by the Warriors. The Warriors drove to the four, but a penalty pushed the ball back to the nine yard line on fourth down and with time for one play, Kroll tossed a pass to Zahir Dunnell, who made a diving catch in for a touchdown and 30-26 win.
